The Northern Coast of Colombia has its own section entirely. For me it was a unique and own portion of the country. I spoke of it as so when I was there. In my opinion, when you think of the country of Colombia it’s the North Coast, and the rest. The North is just different. The Spanish will not be the “easy to understand and slow” Spanish that you have heard about I am sure as you enter the country. The people are darker, more Caribbean and it’s probably the only part of the country where you will spend any time on the coast. There is a ton to do on the northern coast and it was one of my favorite parts of the country to explore. With a bunch of destinations, the northern coast could be a trip of its own and I know a lot of people who made their few weeks in Colombia dedicated to nothing else. Here you have Cartagena, the immensely popular and touristic town that attracts millions, cruise ships, and the less adventurous types who are still trying to go somewhere. A little more on the adventurous side you have Parque Nacional de Tayrona. A picturesque beach national park that you have to walk into. Certainly, the best beaches in the country. You have a party beach backpacker town in Palomino. A hippy mountain town in Minca. Similar to the country of Colombia, the northern coast contains multitudes. It’s a beautiful adventure over here, and here you will find the places that I went. I recommend them all.
