This isn't a blog.
Well I guess it is. Let me go back.
When I started this trip there was nothing I hated more than, "hey you should start a blog!". I didn't want to turn my trip into some bullshit spectacle. So this won't be like other travel blogs you are used to seeing. There will be no '13 BEST TACO STANDS IN MEXICO CITY!!' or '10 MUST SEES IN PANAMA!!'. I won't be adding frequent updates posts or articles about different 'tips and tricks from the road.'
This is The Bobi Book. Named for my 1998 Toyota 4runner that has carried me across rivers, borders and continents.
This will be a guidebook in a way. Think lonely planet but from a familiar face. About 2 years into this trip of mine (more on that in the 'about me' section, if you really feel like torturing yourself yet another one of those 'where you from?, how long you been traveling?, how long you going to be traveling?,' rituals in text form, then be my guest) I realized that there are loads of people like me. Traveling slow, up or down Latin America. Seeing the world and trying to see more, the same way that I saw it.
So after countless scatterbrained recommendation lists to my new strangers turned friends, I decided I would write it all down. Why not make it nice while I'm at it? For me personally, when I was just getting started, I never found the perfect thing get my imagination going. To excite me about the adventures and places to come. The information is all out there. But never in the same place. The same order, or for the eyes and ears of a most always barefoot and salty backpacker.
So within these pages, you will find exhaustive summaries or logs as I will call them. I say 'summary', seriously as this is not even close to everything you can do in these amazing countries. I have only scratched the surface. But it is a start. No hostel, restaurant, or bar mentioned in these logs has paid me, nor will I ever accept any money in the event anyone decides to start reading this.
This guide will have all of Latin America in it eventually. From North to South. In order and the majority of the spots to hit will be covered. Except for the ones I have intentionally omitted in order to preserve their magic. For as long as possible before some Youtuber comes in and exposes 'The Next Great Hidden Mexican Paradise'. God forbid.
This will also be a surf guide, as the majority of my travels have been centered around surfing. Surf spot secrecy and the culture behind that is important to me. So unless the place is well known in the community, it will not be spoken of here. Find me and buy me a beer and maybe I'll tell you about the rest.
