ZIHUATaNEJO, MX

This won't be a typical summary. — Just a small generalization and introduction to Zihuatanejo. Zihuatanejo, or Zihuat (zee wat) for short, is a rapidly popularizing resort town in the State of Guerrero, in Mexico. You may remember that this small town was popularized in one of the greatest movies of all time, 'Shawshank Redemption', as the small town where Andy Dufresne goes after he escapes from prison. At that time, it was a small little fishing village. It is a bit different now.   Zihuat has an international airport now, and has become a popular tourism destination for people going on vacation. It's also quickly 'trendifying' (if that can be considered a word). With cool and fancy boutique hotels popping up and capitalizing on the 'in vogue' Mexican tourism market.   It's a crowded and popular tourism destination that I personally just passed through. There is an international airport here though, which is why it should be considered so relevant. It is where you gain access to the entire area. To the surf towns and to the beauty of Guerrero. For me, tourism or visiting Zihuat wasn't something that I wanted to do so I spent no time there. But it's a famous spot in Mexico, and if you want to go get a nice meal, or treat yourself to a nice hotel or something, this could be a good spot to do it if you have been roughing it for a minute.   For me, Guerrero has much better things to offer than Zihuat. The beach is beautiful though, and if you want to go on a nice Mexican vacation in a place that isn't as blow up as the rest of the tourist hotspots, you will like Zihuat.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

  • LOCATION - Zihuat is located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico in the state of Guerrero. The easiest way to get here is to just take a plane to the international airport located here in Zihuat. It's a super easy flight from Mexico City. If you are driving up or down, you can just follow route 200 and it runs right into town. You can't miss it.

  • ACCOMMODATION - Mainly nice hotels and resorts.

  • EATS - Unsure.

  • NIGHTLIFE - Unsure.

  • SIGHTS - Beach, boat tours, etc.

  • SURFING - Lots of waves in the general vicinity, but not in actual Zihuat. Troncones, Saldadita, etc. There are some other waves in the area as well. Buy a local a beer, and figure it out for yourself.
