tela, HN

This is going to be really quick. Just a shout out for a place in Honduras on the mainland that was surely the most popular coastal town on the mainland. Tela is a really nice little beach town and it's popular amongst Honduras locals for vacation.   I never went here, but from the people I talked to who had spent time on the mainland this is probably the gem. If you are interested in spending some time exploring mainland Honduras, Tela is your spot.   I didn't spend any time here so I don't really have any advice. Just here to point out that is a place people go if they want to see some more of Honduras.   One thing that I heard about Tela specifically is that the locals are extremely nice and welcoming. Outside tourism isn't the most common thing in the world here, so upon seeing travelers and tourist the locals are really kind and receptive. — Just from a few stories I heard, this was the general sentiment.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

  • LOCATION - Tela is located in the far north of the country along the coast. It's right along CA - 13. The coastal road that connects San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba. If you are taking a bus through the country to try and get to La Ceiba to catch your ferry over to the Bay Islands, then you are going to pass right through it. All the transportation that will take you all the way to La Ceiba will have to go through it, so if you want to spend some time here just hop off the bus.

  • ACCOMMODATION - Not sure.

  • EATS - No clue.

  • NIGHTLIFE - Not sure, but likely not much.

  • SIGHTS - The beach. There is also diving you can do from Tela. I heard good things. — Won't hold a candle to the Bay Islands, but it's something to do.

  • SURFING - Nothing.
