copan ruins, HN

This is just going to be a quick summary of this place. It's called Copan. It's certainly the most popular destination for tourism in all of mainland Honduras. It's a very impressive set of Mayan ruins located in far far eastern Honduras. Essentially the border of Guatemala. If you really like to see ruins, then you will probably want to go and visit Copan. They are great from what I hear. I personally didn't go as ruins to me are like churches, and I felt I had seen enough. But coming here would certainly be a really good thing to do if you want to see a little bit more of Honduras. Just be warned, it's an extremely long journey to get here, — at least half a day, assuming you are coming from another popular place to travel in the area. There is a small little town set in the jungle here that supports the ruins and the tourism around it. I have heard that the town itself is really cute and little with really friendly locals. It's a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and if you want to learn more about it, there's a link here.

GENERAL OVERVIEW
-
LOCATION - The Copan Ruins are located in far eastern Honduras. Only about 5 miles from the Guatemalan border, which is pretty crazy. But no matter where you are coming from, the journey is going to be extremely long. About 7 hours at least from the major places that people come from. So if you aren't really into ruins, this might not be a worthy journey. It wasn't for me. The town of Copan is located just outside of the ruins themselves, and it's only about a 20-minute walk to get there from town. If you have no interest in walking — and I wouldn't blame you because it's really, really hot, then you can grab a cheap tuk tuk.

To get here you should grab a shuttle:
-
If you are coming from Antigua, GT, which is really common, you can book a shuttle here. The shuttle leaves at 3:30 AM, and arrives at Copan Ruins at 12:00 PM.
-
If you are coming from La Ceiba, probably the 2nd most popular place to come from, you can book a shuttle here. The travel time from La Ceiba is about 7 hours, and the ticket will cost as much as $69.
