EASTERN / CARIBBEAN NICARAGUA

A part of Nicaragua that I am pretty sure a lot of people don’t even know exists. Most people — even if they know it exists, don’t come here anyways. I think that about 10% of the people I met, actually probably more like 5%, actually made their way over here. The main reason — it’s extremely fucking difficulty to get here, and there’s really only one thing to do. The only reason people go to the eastern side of Nicaragua is to go to the Corn Islands. The mainland of the East side of Nicaragua or the Caribbean side is practically just mangrove forest. A naturally unlucky part of the world that’s extremely difficult to inhabit. As a result, there’s really only one mainland town over there. It’s called Bluefield’s. It’s not a place you want to spend any time or visit from a touristic perspective. It’s a dilapidated and run down drug-running town. But it is the gateway to the Corn Islands. You will only go through Bluefield’s if you overland yourself to the Corn Islands. There’s a lot more on how to get to the Corn Islands through Bluefield’s on those pages, but this is just where you pick up the ferry (if you are lucky to be able to catch it). The Corn Islands though are probably the most beautiful islands I have ever been on that are inhabited. They are stunning, relatively untouched and undiscovered, and they remain very very magical. I can’t recommend them enough if you like pristine Caribbean islands. But maybe I shouldn’t recommend them. The only reason they are so amazing still is because no one really goes…
