You may be beginning to notice that a lot of the log entries in Costa Rica — if you have been paying attention, haven't been the typically long-winded and exhaustive dives into the places you are reading about. That is simply because I didn't spend enough time here. I pushed through the country pretty quickly.  Uvita is no exception. I went through the town, but I am pointing it out because if you want to go spend a lot of time in Costa Rica, then it is a good place to know about. Uvita is a mellow beach community located about 20 minutes south of Dominical. Dominical is pretty slow-paced, and Uvita is even more slow-paced than that.  It's famous for it's 'whale tail' shaped beach peninsula that juts out stunningly into the sea. It's really a beautiful thing to see! More beautiful from an aerial view, but nonetheless beautiful. Now something to know before coming to Uvita is that it is extremely mellow. You aren't going to find much in the way of partying here. The place is full of yoga retreats, hippy commune-like places, and centers for spirituality. It's extremely popular among those types of people.  You have a really large community of people doing that here. So if you are looking for a place like that, then Uvita could be perfect for you. If you are in search of a bustling backpacker town, with lots to do, and lots of people to meet in a nightlife perspective, then this probably isn't for you.  The one exception to the rule here about the mellowness, is the yearly festival that occurs here called 'Envision'. Envision is famous, and has been running for about 20 years. People from all over the world come for the rather epic electronic music festival that spans over a week. It's, from what I have seen and heard, an amazing experience, and probably tops any festival experience you can have anywhere else in Central America.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

  • LOCATION - Uvita is located in the Puntarenas Province in central coastal Costa Rica. It is located about 20 minutes south of Dominical. If you are trying to get to Uvita, refer to the location section of Dominical. It will give you most of what you need. The rest is to just get to Uvita. If you have your own car, easy. If not, the buses are easy as well. Taxis can be hired also, but that will be obviously more expensive.

  • ACCOMMODATION - Depends on if you are here for a yoga retreat or something. There's lots of places that offer that type of thing. Other than that, I never stayed here so I don't have any recommendations.

  • EATS - Didn't go.

  • NIGHTLIFE - Outside of the 'Envision Festival' which typically happens in early March and lasts a week, this place is going to be generally sleepy.

  • SIGHTS - Check out the 'whale tail' beach, called Punta Uvita. Other than that, the surrounding things to do are pretty similar to Dominical.

  • SURFING - There's lots of surfing in the area, but Uvita itself is lacking in waves. Check out the surfing section in Dominical, you should probably head up there if you want waves.
