turneffe atoll, bz

This won't be much more than a notice that this place exists and could be worth coming to. Turneffe Atoll is a very well-known place in Belize, and in the dive community. This is in the Cayes section, but Turneff — as you can see by the name, is actually an atoll. An atoll being a ring-shaped coral reef, island, or series of islets. But anyways. That's what Turneffe is. Turneffe actually has a lot of land on it, but for the most part it is just mangrove forest nothingness. With no one on it, uninhabitable, and nothing to do. There are a handful of resorts on Turneffe, and the diving around is sought after by divers across the world. This will be extremely expensive destination diving though, so be ready for that. Turneff is frequented primarily for one reason. The Blue Hole. The great Blue Hole is one of the most interesting places on earth to dive. It's a giant marine sinkhole located 100 kilometers (60 miles) off the coast of Belize. It's over 300 meters across, and 125 meters (410 feet) deep. So it's massive. It's one of those bucket-list things that people come to do. The Blue Hole is about 10 miles, or a 30-minute boat ride from Turneffe, so it's a massively popular place to stay for those wanting to dive it. To me the Blue Hole is kind of boring. There's not much going on down there from a diving perspective, not much life, etc. But it's a bucket-list item for people nonetheless. I wouldn't imagine you are going to be coming here for anything other than diving. There is even less to do and less development here on Turneff than Tobacco Caye. But it's a really amazingly beautiful place. There's maybe 4 or so dive resorts, and those are the only places to stay. I'm not really going to include any information here on anything. I just merely wanted to point out that this is a really cool place to go check out.
GENERAL OVERVIEW
-
LOCATION - Turneff is about 15 miles from Belize City, or about 40 miles from San Pedro on Ambergris Caye. So it's pretty conveniently located near the international airport in Belize City. But it's also common-ish for people to head over to Turneffe for the day from San Pedro if they was to do dives over here, or dive the Blue Hole.
-
ACCOMMODATION - There's a number of dive resorts out here. A few are below. Nothing will be cheap. This is expensive destination diving though. So be prepared for that.
-
EATS - Nothing outside of the food at the resorts.
-
NIGHTLIFE - Nothing.
-
SIGHTS - Nothing.
-
SURFING - Flat.
