suchitoto, SV

Suchitoto is probably for me my biggest regret in not visiting in the entire country. My god, does it look beautiful. Just this little magical spot tucked away along a lake about an hour-and-a-half or so away from the city. It's a picturesque colonial-style town consisting almost entirely of buildings with white walls, and red brick roofs. Just looks like such a cool place to come spend the day or a night and walk around, take photos, and see something pretty unique in this already unique country. I unfortunately didn't go here, so my recommendations here will be limited to none. I just really wanted to call the place out, because when I go back to El Salvador, this place is on my list.   Easily accessible, beautiful, small. Stunning view of a lake throughout the town, cobblestone streets, identical architecture, what's not to love?? Kicking myself for not coming. A place to know, and a place to go here in El Salvador.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

  • LOCATION - This small colonial town is located about an hour and change away from the Capital city of San Salvador.

    • To get here you can take a local bus, Bus 129: A full-sized bus with air-conditioning that leaves every 15–20 minutes from Terminal de Oriente. The trip takes about 1.5 hours, and costs $1. So it's super-easy. If you are coming from another one of the tourist hot spots in El Salvador your journey may be a little bit longer, because you have to first get into San Salvador. The mini buses will take you into town from any of them.

    • If you are driving yourself, it's easy enough. Just take Carr 1 or the Pan-American Highway south out of San Salvador, then get on the Suchitoto highway at a turnoff in Barrio La Cruz. If you look it up in your maps the route is easy.

  • EATS - — Didn't come, so it's going to be an 'explore on your own'. It's a tiny town, so just walking around and trying to stumble in somewhere will be fun.

  • NIGHTLIFE - Probably absolutely nothing.

  • SIGHTS - The town itself. It's why you come here. There's a church here that's popular to visit, and then the lake.

  • SURFING - Nothing. There's a lake you can probably go swim in.
