Samara, CR

Samara is a small town in the Guanacaste Province of Costa Rica which is located on the Nicoya Peninsula in the northern part of the country. I didn't really spend much time here — I really just drove through and had lunch, but I figured that it's an important place to point out on the map. Samara is really nice. It's a lot like a place to the north called Nosara, and I almost included them together in the same page because they are practically the same place but I elected to separate them because they do have some pretty notable differences. Well not that notable, but still they are different places. Samara is super expensive. It's where some of the richest expats in Costa Rica live or vacation or have homes, or all of the above. From my experience only second to its big sister to the north, Nosara. As a result the age here is a little older but nonetheless it's a nice spot right on the beach. It's going to be very gringo-ized here, but as a result, super-nice. I don't really know anything about Samara, but I am just putting it here to call it out as a place that a lot of people do come to visit. If you want a relaxing vacation this is a nice place. It's in a pretty secluded bay, so right in the heart of Samara the ocean is extremely flat and calm. I read something today when I was doing some research on Samara. It's the 'family-friendly' paradise in Costa Rica. That's probably pretty accurate. I preferred this place to the significantly more upscale Nosara.
