Rio Dulce & Livinston, GT

This is going to be really quick. Just a shoutout for a place that people go to sometimes. I actually didn't go here at all but it's a good place to know about. It's two places actually, but they are often referred to as a group. 'Rio Dulce', and 'Livingston'. It's really the only place on the Caribbean or eastern side of Guatemala that anyone goes to. The only part of the Atlantic-Ocean-centric part of Guatemala that is traveled. It's extremely close to the northern border of Honduras as well. Rio Dulce is a large fresh water river that leads out to the ocean. The river itself is very large, and is even frequently traveled by sailboats. It's a very common place for sailboats to come in and wait out the hurricane season if they are traveling around the Caribbean. So if you meet sailors, they are likely going to have spent some time here or know of it well. So if you're a sailor, do some more research on this spot. Livingston is apparently a cool Caribbean town that I actually wish I went to. I know some people who went, and they all said really good things. It's an Afro-Caribbean community, and is a great place to go and witness that and Garifuna culture. I don't really have anything to add other than pointing out that it's a place that exists, and if you want to explore further into Guatemala and do something that is not all that common then this is a good idea to do some more research into.

GENERAL OVERVIEW
-
LOCATION - Rio Dulce is near the borders of Honduras and Belize, in far Eastern Guatemala. One of the only traveled and civilized portions of eastern and Caribbean Guatemala. A very common route for people is to come from Flores, through Rio Dulce, and over into Guatemala City. If you are driving, that is a great way to do it. The only way to get to Livingston is by boat. There are no roads, the way to get there is either downriver from Rio Dulce, northwest along the coast from the Guatemalan port town of Puerto Barrios, or internationally from Honduras or Belize. So that will be an adventure on its own.
-
ACCOMMODATION - Not sure, but they are both popular enough tourist destinations that there will be accommodation options.
-
EATS - No clue.
-
NIGHTLIFE - Not sure, but likely not much.
-
SIGHTS - The river, the Garifuna people, Livingston.
-
SURFING - Nothing.
