managua, ni

Just to be honest, I would avoid this place at all costs. The city has not one redeeming quality to it. It’s a messy, dangerous, and chaotic Central American capital city. It is also the worst of all the central capitals, which is saying a lot. It’s the worst by a lot. More than likely though you will have to go through Managua. If you fly into the country, it's going to come through Managua. If you want to fly to the east, it's going to be through Managua. If you have to do customs paperwork, it's going to be in Managua. I had to go 3 times to extend my import permit. Against my will. So this page is pretty much here just to let you know that you don’t need to spend any time in Managua. If you are busing into the country, it will be through here, but just make sure you know where your next bus is. Get to your next destination. That’s my two cents. — Never met anyone who loved Managua in my life. If you are driving, and you plan to spend more than a month here, you will have to come here to extend your TIP. There are some directions below in the location section about how to extend your TIP and where to go. It's easy, but annoying.

GENERAL OVERVIEW
-
LOCATION - The capital city of the country. Kind of right in the center from a latitude perspective. Also right on a lake. Not much needs to be said about the location, it has the country's biggest airport, and is very easy to navigate to. Below are a few points of interest in the city.
-
BUS STOP - So here is the bus stop, if you take a bus into the city then this is where you will get dropped off. If you need to get a collective to somewhere else in the country, there are taxis waiting outside of the bus stop that will take you to the collectivo area. I got scammed once by a motherfucker who took me to the wrong place on purpose then double charged me to take me to the right place. So make sure you know where the right place for the collectivos to where you are going is.
-
ADUANA - If you are an overlander, and you are going to spend more than one month in the country you will become familiar with this place. You have to come here every 30 days to extend your TIP. It's an easy process, you have to write down why you are going to stay in the country more than 30 days, and just have all your documents prepared like always. You can extend twice, for a total of 90 days.
-
-
ACCOMMODATION - Don't recommend staying here.
-
EATS - I would try to spend such little time here that you don't even have to eat.
-
NIGHTLIFE - Probably. But nope.
-
SIGHTS - There are some churches and a lake front. But nothing worth seeing.
-
SURFING - All around, get going.
